WFO prepares for first meeting of the WFO Council

Regional and national affiliated organizations of the WFO have until November 1, 1999, to submit names of selected councilors to the WFO Secretariat.

In April 2000 during the 100th AAO Annual Session, the 5th International Orthodontic Congress (IOC), and the 2nd Meeting of the WFO in Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A., the WFO Council will meet for the first time. The WFO Council will be composed of representatives from each country that represents national organizations affiliated with the WFO.

For countries that have only one national organization, the national organization should appoint its representative and inform the WFO Secretariat. If more than one national organization hails from one country, the organizations must agree on the national representative for the WFO Council. Regional organizations should also appoint their representative and inform the WFO Secretariat.

In addition, 40 councilors will be selected at large, based on each affiliated organization’s pro rata share of the total WFO membership. Only fellows who were in good standing with the WFO as of December 31, 1998, will be counted as part of the total WFO membership.

During the meeting of the WFO Council, the councilors will elect the new members of the Executive Committee, will receive financial reports from the secretary-general, and will establish standing orders and policies governing the work of the Executive Committee and the WFO. The Council will also be requested to act on several bylaw changes that will improve the functions and representation of the WFO.
