International Notes

The Indian Orthodontic Society (IOS) has established the Indian Board of Orthodontics for certification of its members. This marks a milestone in the progress of orthodontics in India. The structure of the board is based on the structure of other orthodontic boards throughout the world. Fifteen orthodontists registered for the first board certification and more than 40 students registered for the Phase II examination. The first successful candidates to achieve board certification were honored in October 1999.

To honor those who helped make this certification board possible, the IOS has conferred Fellowships of Clinical Excellence on all of its past presidents, secretaries and editors. The IOS also recognizes the assistance provided by the late Dr. Dale Wade, past president of the American Board of Orthodontics.

The German Orthodontic Society (GOS) held its annual convention in September 1999. More than 1,200 colleagues from Germany and abroad attended this conference. The GOS now has 2,110 members, including 131 new members, 16 honorary members and 27 corresponding members. During the meeting, Dr. Rolf Berg was appointed as an honorary member of the GOS.
