WFO to sponsor International Orthodontic Journal Editors' Symposium in April 2000
During the 100th American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) Annual Session, the 5th International Orthodontic Congress (IOC) and the 2nd Meeting of the World Federation of Orthodontists (WFO) in April 2000, the WFO will sponsor the first-ever International Orthodontic Journal Editors' Symposium.
This symposium will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, April 28 at the Hyatt Regency Chicago in Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A.
Editors from around the world will convene to discuss the role of journals in orthodontists' professional development and other issues common to all orthodontic journals, such as how to monitor the accuracy of journal submissions, the effectiveness of the peer-review process, and editorial ethics. The following four topics will be part of the symposium agenda:
-
Overview of Orthodontic Journalism - Its History and Impact,
-
Ethics of Research Conducted, Data Contained in the Manuscript,
-
Printing Press vs. Electronic Media to Disseminate Information, and
-
Networking Among Orthodontic Journals.
Throughout the conference, editors will compare notes and learn from each other's experiences. At the end of the conference, a summary report will be compiled. This report will serve as a blueprint for future meetings and collaborations.
Editors of international journals will receive a formal invitation to this symposium. Interested editors should contact Lorraine DuPont of the WFO Secretariat for more information. Her telephone number is 314-993-1700, ext. 255. Her e-mail address is ldupont@wfo.org.
