Web site to include special section for orthodontic journal editors
The WFO Web site will soon have a new interactive feature. Orthodontic
journal editors from around the world will have access to an online
bulletin board where they can exchange ideas and views. This bulletin
board should be part of the Web site by January. The WFO Web-site
address is www.wfo.org.
This new avenue of communication developed out of the International
Orthodontic Editors' Symposium, which was held in late April during
the 100th AAO Annual Session, the 5th International Orthodontic
Congress and the 2nd Meeting of the WFO. This historic first meeting
of 29 editors from 18 countries has served as a catalyst for communication
and unification among the editors. They met to determine how to
best serve readers, plan for the future and remain on the cutting
edge of technology.
"The stated objective of the World Federation of Orthodontists
is to advance the science and art of orthodontics," said Dr.
Lee Graber, WFO president. "Our journals provide the means
to do this in a timely fashion. The WFO is most supportive of this
cooperative international effort to improve the dissemination of
important material to all of our members."
Through the online bulletin board, the editors will be able to reach
out to their colleagues 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Ideas,
questions and concerns will all be part of the exchange. A similar
bulletin board is also being developed for the WFO Executive Committee.
"The editors are responsible for communication among orthodontic
specialists and orthodontic organizations throughout the world,"
said Dr. William DeKock, WFO secretary-general. "The WFO is
pleased to be part of this vital communication network."
Editors who wish to access this online bulletin board should contact
Lorraine DuPont of the WFO Secretariat. She may be reached by telephone
at 314-993-1700, ext. 255, or by fax at 314-993-5208. Her e-mail
address is ldupont@wfo.org.
The next International Orthodontic Editors' Symposium will be held
during the 101st AAO Annual Session in Toronto, Canada.
