European Orthodontic Society will host its 78th Congress in Sorrento

The European Orthodontic Society (EOS) encourages WFO fellows to attend its 78th Congress June 4-8 in Sorrento, Italy.

This meeting will feature four themes: lingual techniques as a real daily alternative; the definition of the anterior limit of the dentition; the choice between orthodontics and surgery in borderline cases; and the use and abuse of diagnostic tools.

Dr. Didier Fillion will address the topic of lingual orthodontics. Dr. Fillion of Paris has practiced lingual orthodontics exclusively since 1987 and has published extensively on this topic. In his presentation, he will discuss the intricacies of lingual orthodontics.

Dr. Franco Magni of Genoa, Italy, and Dr. Eugene Roberts of Indianapolis, Indiana, USA, are the keynote speakers for the second theme: the definition of the anterior limit of the dentition.

Dr. Magni and Dr. Roberts have explored this topic at great length and will explain the limitations in the anterior movement of the labial segments through their research.

Dr. Karin Vargervik of the University of California-San Francisco (USA), Dr. Richard McLaughlin of the University of Southern California (USA), Dr. Roberto Brusati and Dr. Adolfo Ferro of the University of Milan and the University of Naples (Italy) will all address the third theme - choosing between orthodontics and surgery in borderline cases. Each of these doctors has researched this topic and has dealt with clinical treatment in the various borderline situations. They will illustrate their personal approaches to orthodontics and surgery.

The final theme, the use and abuse of diagnostic tools, will be addressed by Dr. Luc Dermaut of Gent, Belgium, and Dr. Sandro Palla of the University of Zurich (Switzerland). Drs. Dermaut and Palla have analyzed this topic and will present and discuss the implications of the use and abuse of diagnostic tools.

The meeting will also feature the Sheldon Friel Memorial Lecture. Dr. James Moss, honorary secretary of the EOS, will present this lecture on June 5. Other keynote speakers include WFO President Dr. Lee Graber of Kenilworth, Illinois, USA; Dr. Malcolm Jones of Cardiff, Wales; Dr. Stavros Kiliaridis of Geneva, Switzerland; and Dr. Stephen Richmond of Cardiff, Wales.

Special events will be another highlight of the EOS Congress. The Opening Ceremony and Get Together Party will take place on June 4. The President's Reception will be held on June 5, and postgraduate students may enjoy an evening of disco on June 6. The Gala Dinner will be held June 7 and will feature a four-course menu. The EOS Congress outing will be held on June 8. Attendees will explore the Reggia di Caserta, a monumental palatial complex. The annual Silver Mill competition will be held after the luncheon during this outing.
