Join your fellow orthodontic
colleagues in Paris in September 2005 for the 6th International
Orthodontic Congress
We are all members of the World Federation of Orthodontists (WFO)
and are very proud to be part of this unique and talented community
of health professionals. Every five years, we all meet for the International
Orthodontic Congress (IOC) to celebrate the world of orthodontics
our world.
In 2000, we met in Chicago for the 5th International Orthodontic
Congress. In 2005, we will meet in Paris for the 6th International
Orthodontic Congress. Please make sure you have reserved the dates
of September 11-15, 2005, for this important event.
Paris is a beautiful city that has much to offer. Here you will
find the Arc de Triomphe, the Eiffel Tower and outstanding museums,
such as the Musée du Louvre, the Musée d'Orsay, and
the National Museum of Modern Art. Paris is well-known for its fine
cuisine and little bistros. The city also lends itself well to leisurely
strolls, especially along the narrow streets of Montmartre and those
of the Quartier Latin. These are just a few of the many reasons
why you will not want to miss this unique event!
The Organizing Committee, also known as the COCIO (the Comité
d'Organisation du Congrés International d'Orthodontie), is
already working hard to prepare for this event, which we hope will
meet with your approval. Originally, the responsibility of planning
the 6th IOC was given to the French orthodontic societies ? the
Société Française d'Orthopédie Dento-Faciale
(SFODF) and the Syndicat des Spécialistes Français
en Orthopédie Dento-Faciale (SSFODF) - but, little by little,
all the European societies have become co-organizers and are now
part of the COCIO. The societies' representatives have created a
strong, yet diversified, welcoming committee. They are actively
and eagerly preparing and planning for this world meeting.
In 2000, the COCIO welcomed and met with WFO president Dr. Lee
Graber, WFO Secretary-General Dr. William DeKock, and WFO Executive
Committee members Dr. Roberto Justus and Dr. Julia Harfin. In 2001,
Dr. DeKock presented a $50,000 check to the COCIO. This money helped
cover the pre-congress expenses. WFO Vice President Dr. A.E. Athanasiou
and WFO Executive Committee member Dr. Francesca Miotti also accompanied
Dr. DeKock during this meeting. The COCIO General Assembly was held
in November 2001.
Every year the president or a specially appointed member from each
European society comes to Paris, either as part of the Organizing
Committee or the Scientific Committee, and works hard - from dawn
till dusk and even into the night - on the Scientific Program and
the selection of the social event locations.
